Old gadgets
Found an old iPod from my desk the other day. Presumed it was dead, since it has been laying there unused for quite sometime. Anyway, plugged it into my computer’s firewire port, and to my surprise it started to charge. Got my hopes up that it wasn’t completely dead, like I thought at first.
After few hours of waiting for it to be recharged, I decided to see if I could get it do what it is supposed to do. After installing iTunes, changing the towels in bathroom and several reboots (for some reason iPod Service made Windows Explorer to use all of the CPU and forced the computer to shutdown to avoid CPU overheating) I got the iPod to show up in Vista, stopping the iPod Service helped a bit and setting the iPod to disk mode.
Eventually I managed to transfer some songs over to the iPod and even play them.
But this morning I thought of transfering bit more songs over to the iPod, after all I was using only 2.5GB of the 10GB disk. So I went on and set the iPod to disk mode and plugged it in. Nothing happened. I used the “Safely remove hardware” thing in Windows, that halted and prompted me with some dubious error screen after a minute or so. Having nothing to lose I just unplugged the bastard and restarted it, but after restarting it only gave me the “Folder and exclamation point” icon. I tried restarting it over and over again, till the point it froze for about an hour.
With a bit of googling I found out how to boot the iPod in to diagnostic mode. Ran some short test and everything passed fine. But then I foolishly started the HDD scan. After what seems to be eternity the HDD scan is still running. No sign if it is actually doing anything or just keeping the backlight on and burning out the battery.

Photosharing
After few weeks of using Zooomr & Flickr side by side, I’ve started to like Zooomr more. Even tho it is a lot slower from time to time. I just feel more home with the Zooomr interface.
Nevertheless both services are great. And I probably end up using both (I’m such indecisive person).
My Zooomr photoroll. (Mind the quality, some of the photos are taken with my Nokia 6280)
On a sidenote, if you think you can use self taught Ruby On Rails newbie on any project, let me know. I’m in dire need of something to do.

Lots of new stuff.
Ruby on Rails 1.2 RC1 got released last thursday. With lots of cool new features & changes. I haven’t yet started on testing out if all my Rails applications are in need of tuning to be compatible with 1.2. I’ll get to it next week, after I’ve lost all my money on poker.
Also Portable Apps Suite got released, this is something I’ve been waiting for. Now I can take my browser, office, documents & whatnots wherever I go. WIthout having to hope that there’s Internet connection if I need to know my schedule.

Weekly update.
Jumped in to wonderful world of online poker this weekend. So far been only losing. Think everyone got to learn the hard way. It is not that I’d suck, I play quite well on live situation. Guess it takes time to get adjusted not beign able to read other players body language.
‘Wrote’ a small Web-based solution to keep track of my wins/losses. Took me about 2 minutes to get a rough working version up & running, all thanks to scaffold feature in Ruby On Rails. It is really simple at the moment, just one SQL table and the minimun amount of code required to get the scaffold work. I’ve got plans to work on it, just to get more experience with RoR.
Also being sick sucks still.
Already in to second week of this damn flu. And it doesn’t seem to give up. Which is quite crap when you live alone, when there’s no one constantly trying to feed you with chicken soup.

Zooomr, whats up?
Was supposed to upload some photos to Zooomr, but got greeted with truckload of photos just saying “Sorry, this photo is currently unavailable”. So got a bit baffled of what is happening, and decided to postpone my upload session. Quick glance on the site provides no information at all of what’s going on (I’m a bit tired at the moment, so might have missed it).
Kristopher Tate is v/blogging about their plans to become the photo sharing website and social community for the entire world. I know they’re still running beta, but shouldn’t they be more focused on running their business smooth before trying to lure in more users.

I used to Flock, now I Fleck
I used to be Flock user until Firefox2 got out. Why I changed: because I liked the new features FF2 had to offer over what Flock had at the moment. If/When Flock updates to Firefox2, I most likely go back to Flock.
Everyone seems to be going crazy about fleck. And so am I, it seems like a great tool. I’ll probably end up spending the whole weekend just Flecking pages.

Long time no update.
Being sick sucks.
For the whole week I’ve been fighting off this pesky flu. Havent had energy to do anything else but watch Futurama episodes from DVD and drink some tea. Seems that I’m winning, seriously hope so.
While trying to get back on track with PHP, after being completely taken over by Ruby on Rails for web development, I stumbled upon this list of top 5 php tools. Havent yet tried all of them but VS.php seems quite nice, maybe that is just because I’m selflearning C# and using Visual Studio C# Express Edition for that, although I dont know if such an extensive IDE is necessary for php development. (Way to contradict myself.)

Photo sharing: Flickr or Zooomr
At first I started with Flickr, but just few days ago someone (can’t remember who, sorry!) pointed me that Zooomr is giving out 2.5GB 4GB Pro accounts free for bloggers, yes I know it is OLD. Anyway, I instantly moved over there (not that I’d need all that, yet).
However, it seems that other people have moved over aswell. Since Zooomr is really slow from time to time. Something that I never really noticed with Flickr.
I’ll be keeping eye on how well does Zooomr perform for few weeks before doing any final decision.
