Fun with RSS feed.
Got bored with the usability of http://mol.fi/paikat (Finland’s Ministry of Labor Job search), so decided I’d grab a rss feed of the jobs I might be interested in (Information Technology). Wrote some odd 30 lines php to parse and format the rss to my liking, and set it up to a domain I’ve had for sometime but didn’t have anything good use for it, until now.
Working on some ideas for a decent stylesheet now. But so far the plain style is working fine.

Why so silent?
Can’t believe it myself that my last post is from 2 months ago about moving to new address. Anyway that didn’t go as planned so back on wordpress.com again.
Anyway, it has been a busy spring. Enrolled in to school this January, studying information and communications technology, also continuing my temp job as a taxi driver. Don’t know if you can talk about temp job anymore, was just going to do one summer, but now it’s been almost two years at the same job. But don’t have any problems how to spend my spare time, Tuesday & Thursday evenings plus Saturday mornings I’m at school. Rest of the time is spent balancing between work and homework

Spotify
Managed to get myself an invite to spotify (I know you can subscribe for 9,99€/month). Wanted to know what the fuzz and buzz was all about. Surprisingly most of it turned out to be true.
Something I miss from Spotify is the ability to tag songs/albums and maybe even artists.
Still somewhat baffled about some artists/labels missing from the database, either they got to be really stupid for not wanting their music to be heard or the labels are still stuck on 80’s with their local deals.
All in all Spotify is a huge step to right direction in the distribution of digital music. Tho I still like having CDs and vinyls but playing them, and especially queueing up songs from different artists/albums, takes effort. Where as with Spotify you’re just one click away from playing your favorite song.

And I ran.
Just dropping by at home to feed the cat before leaving to school. Sums up my life pretty much at the moment; Coming from work just to leave to school or vise versa.
Trying to force myself to start some web designing just to keep my skills up, and maybe make some money (you never know.)
Kind of a short post, I know but dont have much time and I want to write something everyday from now on. Even if it is just few sentences about nothing.

Resurrection
So I am back here just only after about one and half years. It is an eternity, I know. Not much has happened to me in that time, sadly. Still driving taxi around. But I rolled in to a school hoping to get BSc soon (in few years, so I’ll be ready when the downturn ends).

Lazy ass
It seems that I forget this blog time and time again. Resulting in me writing something pointless like this once a month. I think I’d like to write more often, but by tomorrow I don’t remember this whole blog while doing something “productive” on the computer.
I blog because it helps me keep my language skills in shape and my thoughts focused. However, now my head is completely empty, I’ve ran out of things to write.

Jumping the Ubuntu bandwagon
I’m been thinking about changing from Windows to Linux for a long time, but never really got myself to do it. I have used linux ‘in previous life’ quite a lot, but always came back to Windows, mostly because of games. But last saturday night I made the decision, I downloaded and burned the latest Ubuntu and went ahead with the installation. But somewhere along the install my old DVD drive just stopped working, so there I was in the middle of saturday night without any kind of operating system, nor had any possibility to install one to get back with IRC addiction.
First thing in the sunday morning I went and got myself a brand new DVD drive, cost me 30euros so didn’t even bother to see if the old one was salvageable. Armed with new drive the Ubuntu install went through with no problems.
I dont see myself going back to Windows anytime soon.

Back from the dead
Haven’t been writing in a long long time. Mostly due being busy as hell, with work. Unfortunately not in the Web/IT business, but been driving taxi in my town. It is OK, I make enough money to pay the bills and buy food. But working 6 days a week, atleast 10 hours a day, sometimes 24 hours, is keeping me busy. When I get back home I’m ready for sleep.
Haven’t been much ‘out’ with friends, quite frankly haven’t seen them a lot in the past 3 months. That is the real downside of this job. However got to be happy that I got some work to keep me going. It is kind of hard to get job in the IT business if you dont have any degrees, being selftaught isn’t enough.
